In this series, One Day Swallow Whole, I’m interested in the complexities of space and fulfillment of hope, to find my own source of unwavering light. The project was conceived on a visit to Iceland, and while witnessing the Northern Lights, I had an overwhelming feeling of being swallowed whole.  The current work is meant to capture the fleeting transient nature of my own familiar urban skyscape at dusk, and transcend it into a similar event.  By employing techniques of long exposures, utilizing available light and a sweeping motion of the camera, I create an unfocused sense of movement. The connection to the duality of light and darkness in my work is meant to invoke a visceral reaction, suggesting the eventual release of earthly burdens, and the fear of a forgotten existence.

The scale of the these images at 40” x 50” reflects the vastness of the night sky, and invites the observer to seek their own sources of hope in darkness, a beacon of persistent light.
